Removable Prosthodontics

Removable Prosthodontics is the specialty in dentistry that replaces missing teeth with a removable prosthesis.

  1. A removable partial denture replaces one or more teeth in the same arch.
  2. A removable complete denture replaces all teeth in one or both arches.
  3. Maxillofacial Prosthodontics is a subspecialty in Prosthodontics that deals with the fabrication and maintenance of prosthesis to restore function and esthetics on patients who have had or are going through oral cancer treatment. This prosthesis might be to cover defects in the oral cavity, nasal cavity, lips, nose, eyes and ear, among others.

Who is a good candidate for complete or partial dentures?

Anyone that is missing all or a few teeth. In some instances, dental implants are not possible to place in someone’s mouth because of various reasons, such as severe bone loss, a patient receiving radiation or chemotherapy for cancer or other health issues. In addition, having implants can be very costly and removable prosthesis can be a good alternative.

Can a denture be made to “look good”?

It is possible to create beautiful esthetics with removable prosthetics.

“Doing removable prosthesis is a very artistic and detailed process. This is one of the reasons why I became a Prosthodontist. As of today, I still do the dentures for my patients; I set the teeth, check the occlusion and esthetics before processing. I feel privileged when I create a beautiful smile for a patient with a denture”. Dr. Paredes
